Mondays | June 8-July 13 (6 weeks) 5:00-7:30 pm EST Instructor: Savannah Young For ages 16 Limited to 8 students This six-week boot camp is ideal for anyone ages 16 preparing their art portfolio for undergraduate admissions. Students will learn to navigate the application process, identify key characteristics of their own artistic practice, then work to explore those interests further using a variety of styles, techniques, and media ranging from 2D to 3D media. With a focus on experimentation, this course will help expand and strengthen each student’s creative vocabulary as they ideate new pieces to add to their art portfolio. Students will receive personalized instruction tailored to their individual needs, learn how to format their portfolios in preparation for undergraduate admissions, and begin creating a cohesive body of work that they can continue to build upon even after completing this course. Students will also gain skills in critique, presentation, and photographing, documenting their work. Our instructor is well-equipped to assist students working in oil, acrylic, gouache, watercolor, ink, pastel, graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, digital, 3D sculpture (Mixed media non-kiln fired clay), and time-based media. This class is not suitable for students working in wood, metal, or printmaking. This class will be limited to 8 students, to ensure individualized attention. Students will receive a 20% discount on everything excluding brushes) *Further supplies will be required depending on the type of projects each student chooses to pursue as they develop their portfolios. The instructor will discuss each student’s individual needs and help provide a more detailed supply list as they progress through the course. – Sketchbook (6×8” minimum) – Charcoal Drawing Set – Graphite drawing pencils – Eraser – Paint set (acrylic, gouache, or watercolor) – Flat palette (paper, plastic, or wood) – Paintbrushes – Water Cup – 9×12” Arches Watercolor Paper or Other Multi-Media Paper – Your favorite sketching tools, if not mentioned above ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Savannah Young is a multidisciplinary artist based in Chattanooga, TN. Young graduated with a BFA in Painting and a Minor in Drawing from the Savannah College of Art & Design. Currently, she works as a freelance artist and art handler. Using a vintage Polaroid camera to document her life, Young creates paintings from candid photographs, often paired with objects or prose. Her work functions as both a personal archive and an exploration into the various ways memory can be preserved. Young has participated in group shows at ClearStory Arts, Chattanooga, TN; Bululu Studios, Savannah, GA; and INTEgrating Artists, Anaheim, CA, among others. Young is the recipient of many awards, including Best Preparatory & Ideation in SCAD’s SketchX 2022 Exhibition, as well as the Blue Ribbon award for Fine Arts in the 2019 Orange County Fair.
